First post...YEAH!!!

I did a few interviews for the story on being a black student at Garden City Community College. I still need to get a few more interviews, maybe a female perspective, and i also want to see if I can talk to someone in the administration office about having a class like African American studies in Garden City. I'll update more later, if anyone has any suggestions...I'm all ears.

Jeff- Your artwork is awesome! I noticed just one grammatical error, unless you did it on purpose. The second to last box "What cool", should be "What's cool". I have to ask out of curiousity...the "dude in the green shirt" it says "Jesus did it for the ________" what is the last word? I loved the strip, good job!

Thanks Cyd, Yeah i still have some editing to do, always nice to get an extra set of eyes on anything. His shirt says "Jesus did it for the chicks" : ) Those guys are my take on the Bill and Ted, Bevis and Butthead archetype.

Great start! Love to see someone jumping on the wagon. Don't think that the only people you have to talk to have to be black...get other's perspectives as well??? Just as it was a shock for you who came from KCMO to find the diversity here wasn't what you were accustomed to, imagine what it's like for the student who comes from rural KS where they've NEVER gone to school with African Americans or perhaps anyone of diverse skin colors. I like the idea of talking to the administration about classes...Kevin Brungardt is the dean of academics. He's the lead person to talk to about this...it's always a good idea to have a balance of male/female perspectives. Today as I watched the BSU (black student union) members perform as part of MLK event, I was struck by the talent and saddened to know that we rarely see these students interact unless it's on the court/field. With the exception of a few...who have been involved in Media, I don't know these students or what they are involved in. Lesa Gilbert is the sponsor of BSU...she'd be a good interview about the trials/tribulations/activities of these students. I'm really interested in this story line and seeing it develop. Great job Jeff.

Thanks Laura. I'll see if I can track those two people down. i was just thinking today about making sure i get a broad overview of this topic and cover it from a few different angles, then at least I have some options in what direction i can take the story.
